ConvoGo ("the app", "we") is a face-to-face translation app for two people sharing one phone. We built it to be private by default. This policy explains what the app does and does not do with your information.
The short version
- No account, no sign-up, no advertising, no tracking.
- We don't sell your data, and we don't build a profile of you.
- Your conversations are not stored on our servers and are cleared from the app when you close it.
What the app uses, and why
Microphone & speech
When you tap a language to speak, the app captures audio from your device's microphone and streams it, over an encrypted connection, to our speech service, which forwards it to a third-party speech-to-text provider (Deepgram) that converts your speech to text in real time. The audio is used only to produce that transcript while you are speaking; we do not record, save, or store it, and it is not tied to your name, account, or a device identifier. If the cloud speech service is unavailable, the app falls back to your device's built-in speech recognition (handled by your operating system — Apple on iOS, Google on Android), in which case audio is handled by that platform under its own privacy policy.
Translation
To translate, the app sends the transcribed text (and the two language codes, e.g. "en" and "es") over an encrypted connection to our translation service, which forwards it to the Google Cloud Translation API and returns the translation. These requests are not tied to your name, account, or a device identifier. We do not store the text you translate. Google processes the text to perform the translation under its own terms; see Google's privacy policy.
Usage limits
To keep the service within its free tier, our server keeps a single running count of the total number of characters translated each month. This is an anonymous aggregate number only — it contains no text, no personal data, and nothing that identifies you or your device.
Your settings
The two languages you choose are saved locally on your device so the app remembers them next time. They are not sent to us.
What we don't collect
- No names, emails, or accounts.
- No location data.
- No contacts, photos, or files.
- No advertising identifiers or analytics SDKs.
- No conversation history — nothing is stored or synced.
Service providers
Delivering speech-to-text and translation relies on a few infrastructure providers who may process technical data (such as your IP address) only as needed to route and serve requests:
- Deepgram — cloud speech-to-text; transcribes the audio streamed while you speak.
- Google Cloud Translation — translates the submitted text.
- Cloudflare — hosts the lightweight proxy that routes the audio and text.
- Apple / Google — your device's built-in speech recognition, used only as an offline fallback when the cloud service is unavailable.
Each handles data under its own privacy policy.
Children
ConvoGo is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update this page and the "last updated" date above.
